Hi, I’m Carolene, a hand therapist passionate about helping people get back to doing what they love. Whether it’s returning to work, sport, or daily activities, my goal is to provide personalised care that supports your recovery every step of the way.

An injury to the hand affects more than just tissue – it affects identity, livelihood and emotional well-being. I strive to care for the whole person, acknowledging both the physical and personal impact of the hand injuries, and supporting patients every step of the way.

Sport Injury Rehab

Restore function by easing pain, improving mobility and strength, and preventing reinjury through a multi-disciplinary approach when required.

 

Post Surgical Rehab

Aims to restore function and reduce pain after surgery through physical therapy, including targeted exercises and activity routinesThis helps patients regain strength, mobility, and independence faster. 

Customised Splint Fabrication

Creating a unique splint tailored to an individual’s specific needs and injury using thermoplastic materials. This process ensures proper fit, support, and immobilization during healing. 

Scar management and desensitisation therapy

Focus on improving scar appearance, reducing pain and sensitivity, and restoring function after injury or surgery. Desensitisation therapy, a key component, involves gradually exposing the scar to different textures and stimuli to reduce its hypersensitivity. 

Edema (swelling) control techniques

Edema control techniques include elevating the swollen area, using compression garments, gentle massage, reducing salt intake, and potentially using diuretics prescribed by a doctor. These techniques help to improve circulation, reduce fluid buildup, and manage swelling.

Range of motion and strengthening programs

Range of motion (ROM) exercises  focus on gently increasing the range of movement at a joint, while strengthening exercises help build the muscles that support and stabilize the joint. Creating a unique splint tailored to an individual’s specific needs This process ensures proper fit, support, and immobilization during healing. 

Chronic pain and arthritis management

Chronic pain and arthritis management involve a multi-faceted approach, including medication, physical therapy, lifestyle changes. The goal is to manage pain, reduce inflammation, and preserve joint function, as there’s no known cure for arthritis. Restore function by easing pain, improving mobility and strength, and preventing reinjury.

Workplace injury rehabilitation and return to work programs

Workplace injury rehabilitation and Return to Work (RTW) programs help injured employees return to their jobs safely and efficiently. These programs Aims to restore function and reduce pain after surgery through physical therapy, including targeted exercises and activity routinesThis helps patients regain strength, mobility, and independence faster. 

Return to sports program

A Return to Sport (RTS) program helps athletes recover from injuries and gradually re-introduce them to sports or physical activity. It involves a phased approach, typically starting with physical therapy and strengthening exercises . The goal is to ensure athletes are physically and mentally ready to return to their sport safely and effectively, minimizing the risk of re-injury.
